hard work, instant gratification

From a newsgroup about the general theory of relativity:

"A guitar player who's been playing for a very long time and has had lots of practice can much more easily get the guitar to make the sounds he wants it to make. This is a form of instant gratification, because a practiced guitar player can enjoy music intuitively, invent music spontaneously, and knows three or four different ways of doing the same thing.

"For a beginner guitar player, this is all very frustrating, because it takes such effort to remember how to do the most basic things, and the most basic things don't let you make the music you want to make.

"There is no shortcut. Do your scales everyday, and practice hard music for two hours everyday. Instant gratification comes later. Now it's labor. As it should be."
